Originally Fuller® design and technology, FLSmidth’s Ful-Vane™ ammonia booster compressors provide capital and power savings when used as the low pressure stage in a two stage compression system. Ful-Vane rotary compressors have been used since 1949 as a low stage refrigeration booster compressor in heavy duty, low temperature applications. Our booster compressor has few moving parts, no internal valves, and vibration free rotary motion. It is designed to require less maintenance and last longer than other compressor designs. Today, FLSmidth still provides replacements for compressors which were originally installed as long ago as the 1950’s and 1960’s.
Multi-stage refrigeration systems can provide lower operating costs and reduced maintenance while producing lower temperatures. A two-stage refrigeration package consisting of a Ful-Vane low stage booster will decrease the BHP per Ton Refrigeration between 35-65% as compared to a single stage screw compressor. The use of a Ful-Vane also significantly reduces the size of the high pressure screw compressor. To further reduce energy requirements, Ful-Vane ammonia booster compressors can be provided with a built in capacity unloader expansion pocket to control refrigerant gas flow, allowing up to 25% additional power savings.

Ful-Vane compressors also feature rebuildable housings and rotors. Rather than being replaced, the inner cylinder can be re-bored numerous times, and the rotor can be reslotted up to three times. This means the compressor can be easily rebuilt to factory specs several times over its lifespan. This greatly reduces the long-term cost of ownership.
